The death of Michael Jackson continues to be sad. His death is like the physical representation of the end of an era. The ways we consume today are fractured. In terms of music, we no longer rely on the tangible object, like the CD, or the visual, like the music video, to consume our music and better understand it. Michael, who was able to transcend racial, cultural, political, and ethnic boundaries to deliver genius pop songs to fans internationally, perfected both the tangible in terms of record sales and the visual with the mindblowing “Thriller” or the sleek cool of “Billie Jean.” His death is like the realization that we now live without the need of either.
“The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson
